PLANT THE SEED
January 13, 2009I wonder how my English teacher managed to survive her class these days. She was one of the brilliant if not the best mentors I ever had back in my hometown. Though she’s certainly genius she’s one of the reasons I didn’t pursue Education as a career after high school. It’s her patience that seemed to be always running out when some of my classmates behaved liked kids when they’re supposed to be acting like grown ups. She would always yell when at the point of her discussion, someone suddenly crosses in making no sense at all as they mimicked the way she talked and even answered on an intonation resembling her voice. She would tend not to frown when some couldn’t understand what she’s trying to teach but I can see in her eyes that she’s a bit pissed off when things like that happened. Sometimes I laughed at moments some of my crazy classmates crashed her interesting lesson. I doubt if they find it the way I see it. I say she’s a little impatient and at some point I see myself in her.
I’m not sure if I still have in my old boxes the note she’d written way back in high school. She made the note on one of my composition notebook after I wrote an essay regarding abortion. It says how relieved she is that she still has one student who believes in her and learned from things she tries to impart. Sometimes when I look at the note, I felt how tired she is of what she does and somewhat realize that the heart of teaching is learning that someone learned something from you. When I was about to graduate high school she kept telling me that I would be an excellent teacher like her should I pursue education as a vocation but I ended up taking accounting instead, a career that at some point seemed to be a road I should have never taken but I ended up walking on for years now. I wonder if its God will but sometimes I’m into thinking that I belong to something where my heart really is but for now I have to stay where I’m home.
Here’s one of the songs I love listening to lately. Maybe I’ve been playing it a dozen times in my music player. I hope someone out there could learn to play it on guitars. The song goes out to those who are passionate knowledge imparters and I must say I have a little desire as well to become one, a Teacher so to speak, someone like them who plant the seed.
“Plant the Seed”
Kristy Lee Cook
(Jon Henderson, Coley McCabe)
Arista
Don’t have a retirement plan
Just a hundred acre piece of black dirt land
And a red tractor sittin’ in the shed
Startin’ tomorrow they’re callin’ for rain
So you’re turnin’ over that field today
There’s a wide world out there
Waitin’ to be fed
May the sun always
Shine down upon you
Let the rain fall
‘Til you have all you need
It’s God’s job
To turn everything
Into what he wants it to be
But God bless the ones
Who Plant The Seed
You don’t mind livin’ on a budget
You wouldn’t teach school
If you didn’t love it
You’re there before seven
And stay long after five
In your class
The kids learn more then English
You work with them ’til they believe that
They can do anything
They want to with their lives
May the sun always
Shine down upon you
Let the rain fall
‘Til you have all you need
It’s God’s job
To turn everything
Into what he wants it to be
But God bless the ones
Who plant the seed
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Here’s to everyone
Who unselfishly runs
Their race so we can dream
May the sun always
Shine down upon you
Let the rain fall
‘Til you have all you need
It’s God’s job
To turn everything
Into what he wants it to be
But God bless the ones
Who plant the seed
