A Poem For Mama
May 8, 2009A Mother’s Secret
Resty Acosta Ibañez
I saw her leave through that door once more,
Taking haste while making footsteps
I bet she’s tired of what she always does
Stealing glances with fear in her heart.
A little baby boy lying asleep on the crib
Alone in that room with those lights on
Sometimes he wakes up everyone when he cries out loud
Seemed to have lost someone they wanted him to forget.
That lady breaks in before dawn
Making sure no one sees here every time she returns
I wonder how hard it takes to leave a child so small
When you’re caught up with life’s unexpected struggles.
She had reasons I guess why she handed them her baby
A childless couple she wished will give mercy
To a child so innocent, a gift she couldn’t carry
Through out this life where she doesn’t have any.
The roads she walked each night from work
To the house in that village is an hour to took
When the wife gets out from that house at night
And the husband makes his way to the city clubs
She breaks in like a thief, so fearless, with might.
It was one Friday night when I’ve learned about her story
She wept as she told what she’s done to her baby
If her simple life had just been blessed and easy
If love never ran and walked from her away
She’ll stand still like just one proud Mommy.
If she had to live like that for years to come
I wouldn’t want to tell everyone what she’d desperately done
It’s enough that her story was mine to keep
Like a best friend’s secret not to be told till rest.
She’s probably on her way tonight on our neighbor’s house
I prayed that God still keep her story the way she’s happy
If it ends tonight like Cinderella’s tale running to hide herself
I hope they’ll never catch her, someone sends her a fairy.
